How Much Fog Does Your San Francisco Neighborhood Receive? See the Map!


Mark Twain allegedly once said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." Whether Twain actually made this remark about our city is up for debate, but what we do know for certain is that the amount of fog we get varies wildly by neighborhood.

The rental listing site HotPads developed a new map breaking down fog coverage in San Francisco neighborhoods. Using satellite data from the U.S. Geological Service, they are able to determine how many hours of fog each neighborhood receives per day. In an interesting side note, they also looked at the relationship between the average amount of sunlight and the neighborhood’s median rent.
